Non-Profit organisation supporting Papua New Guinea Community thrive in Manawatu.

Wantoks Swimming Program – Safe in the Water

The Wantoks Swimming Program is a free, family-focused initiative to improve water safety and swimming skills within our Papua New Guinea community. Many of our families have recently settled in New Zealand and have limited experience with pools, rivers and beach safety.

In partnership with Hilton Brown swim school and the Sports Manawatū, this program provides culturally supportive swimming lessons for tamariki and parents, led by qualified instructors. It’s more than swimming – it’s about whanaungatanga, confidence, health and wellbeing, and keeping our children safe this summer.

What we deliver
  • 8-week term swimming lessons for children (5-13 yrs) and parents
  • Water safety education – beach, river and pool safety in Aotearoa
  • Qualified instructors with Wantok support workers and translators
  • Free transport and swim gear support for families in need
  • End-of-term family celebration and certificates
Our Impact:

Over 40 tamariki and parents have learnt to swim confidently, with improved health, connection and safety awareness.
